Visualization of CAD Models

چکیده

3D models today are used in many areas, e.g. computer-aided geometric design, animation, and computer games. The areas have different demands; computer-aided geometric design must have exact models, cartoons must look good and games must have real-time feedback. Computer-aided design software commonly uses trimmed NURBS as primitives, which have some support in low level graphic visualization libraries such as OpenGL. Animators prefer subdivision surfaces because of their greater flexibility and ability to avoid gaps. However, subdivision surfaces have today limited API support. Mathematically, NURBS is the standard way to represent smooth surfaces. However, NURBS has problems with gaps along borders and they cannot represent surfaces of arbitrary topology. On the other hand, subdivision surfaces have problems with standardization, since there are multiple choices of schemes to use. This report shows that subdivision surfaces are superior to trimmed NURBS for modeling and visualization of composite surfaces.

CAD Visualization by Outsourcing

This paper describes an approach for state-of-the-art visualization in Computer Aided Design and Applications (CAD) based on connecting CAD to computer animation. Instead of replicating functionality in rapidly outdated visualization modules for each CAD software system, CAD scene is imported into an animation software system where state-of-the-art visualizations are produced. The approach of o...

A Design, Simulation and Visualization Environment for Object-Oriented Mechanical and Multi-Domain Models in Modelica

The complexity of mechanical and multi-domain simulation models is rapidly increasing. Therefore new methods and standards are needed for model design. A new language, Modelica, has been proposed by an international design committee as a standard, object-oriented, equationbased language suitable for description of the dynamics of systems containing mechanical, electrical, chemical and other typ...

Tools for Design, Interactive Simulation, and Visualization of Object-Oriented Models in Scientific Computing

Mathematical models used in scientific computing are becoming large and complex. In order to handle the size and complexity, the models should be better structured (using object-orientation) and visualized (using advanced user interfaces). Visualization is a difficult task, requiring a great deal of effort from scientific computing specialists. Currently, the visualization of a model is tightly...
